How to get Customers to Your Website

People search for you using one or many different
search engines.  The search engines have a secret
process for determining what websites get ranked
where on a given keyword search.  We don’t know
exactly how they determine this, and it is frequently
changing, but we do have some pretty good ideas
for how pages are ranked.  For you, as a business
person with a website, or contemplating one,
knowing how to get your website ranked is
essential for obtaining new customers.

One way to receive a high rank is by placing a
Google or Yahoo paid advertisement, called
Google Adwords or Yahoo’s Sponsored Search. 
These ads show up on the right hand side of the
page, and sometimes in the top highlighted blue
area of the search results.

The other essential way to receive a high ranking is
in the natural or organic listings of the search page,
listed on the left hand side.  This does not cost you
anything for the listing.  But to get there takes a lot
of time, patience and know-how.  These search
engines will rank your website based on its
relevancy to the keyword being searched.  They
want to make sure that when a person performs a
search they get what they are looking for. 
Otherwise, that search engine may lose this user to
another search engine if their searches continue to
pull up a lot of junk.
